Baby Naming Ceremony

The Baby Naming Ceremony is found in many traditional Cultures throughout the world, inlcuding many, if not most, indigenous peoples, as well as Jewish, Muslim, and Tibetan Bhuddist Rites. It is an important opportunity present the new child to her community and welcome her into the physical world, but also to give community, family and relatives the chance to bless, gift and annoint the new family in a sacred container...a space of Holiness.

Though we can plan together to customize specifics of your new baby's Blessing Way and Naming,
the main elements are as follows; Family and friends are gathered and the circle is sanctified by traditonal means. A welcoming prayer is made by the officiant and the Baby is presented by name. Guests are asked to individually introduce themselves to the new baby, and how they are related while annointing the feet of the child. Guests should speak directly to the child their blessings and prayers for her well-being. After the Annointing, gentle Music Interlude and sweet food offering can be passed out to guests as a thank you from the Parents or Family. Then guests will present the gift that they brought individually to the child, while addressing her directly why they chose that gift for them. This is then followed by a Closing Prayer and perhaps more music and merriment.
